Butch - Painting
First things first, whilst the
boiler was away with an experience model engineer from the Northampton Model
Engineering Club, I set about stripping that awful paint job.
With plenty of protection for skin, hands,
eyes etc, I set about the various parts of the loco with Nitromorse. This was
slow and very messy process. However the eventual results were well worth the
effort.

After everything was stripped back to
brass the slow process of repainting started.
I had decided to paint the loco in lined
BR black although from the limited research I've carried out this class of loco
never made it in to BR ownership being scrapped by the L.M.S.
Phoenix Precision Paints provided the
necessary etching primer, satin black, gloss varnish and plenty of
thinners.

The photos above show the tanks, cab, running boards and
associated smaller items in etching primer. I used a Badger air brush connected
to a small air compressor. I found that a pressure of 15PSI seemed to produce
the best results.

being applied. The completed smoke box with cleaned up hand rails and completed
