Cadeby Light Railway - Final Fling May 2005

The late Reverend Teddy Boston was real railway enthusiast and a personal friend of the late Reverend Awdrey who famously wrote the Thomas the Tank Engine stories.

Over the years Teddy Boston amassed huge collection of railway items at his rectory in Cadeby Leicestershire. A couple of times a year he would hold open weekends for the public in order to raise money for the church. Following the death of Rev Boston in 1986, his wife carried on the tradition with help from the members of the Cadeby Light Railway.

In 2006 Mrs Boston decided to place the Rectory and the collection on the market and announce that there would be one final open weekend on the 15th & 16th May 2006.

The weather on the day we visited was superb and we had a pleasant if a little sad day there. The collection is amazing and had to be seen to be believed. It included;

A museum with a large collection of railwayana

A large collection of model railway items of all gauges

A extensive 2 foot gauge railway in the garden

A large OO gauge GWR layout

A small 3 1/2 gauge railway in a beautiful dell

There were also some very nice model railway layouts in the village hell further down the road.

Here are a few of the photographs I took. Click to enlarge.
