LBSC 3
1/2" Gauge Maisie - Locomotive
The following pages detail the
progress on the locomotive.
For Christmas 2002 my wife, Elaine, purchased the kit of parts seen below ....

The first job was to sort out and sell all the surplus items.
These included the tender wheels, tender frames, springs, axle boxes etc..
The loco isn't quite as advanced as it looks. Most of the parts
are simply 'positioned' in their correct place. However most of the value gear
has been machined. The rear driving wheels are on their axel and both the bogie
and trailing wheel set are complete.
The first task was to strip everything down and paint the frames
in satin black.
Thoughts are now turning towards machining and assembling the
value gear.
Assembly of the valve gear is now progressing.

Above is a photo of one of the pieces of valve gear I have had to
manufacture, it is one of the two eccentric straps.
Detailed view of the front bogie.

February 2005 saw an important set forward. The chassis finally became an
'Atlantic' class after the final driving axle was turned and the wheels driven
on. Quartering is complete and the coupling rods attached for checking. Fixing
pins are yet to be manufactured to ensure the wheels do not rotate on the axle.
