LBSC 3
1/2" Gauge Maisie
The following pages detail the
progress (or lack of it) on this VERY long term project!!
The idea behind wanting to build a 'real' steam
engine was born out of a desire to do something with my hands after getting home
from work having spent the day 'cutting' software. I also fancied the ideal of
learning some 'traditional' engineering skills.
The choice of locomotive was
driven by various factors. Build a classic design, have something with a
reasonable amount of power, be light enough to handle on you own whilst keeping
construction costs reasonable. One obvious
choice was LBSC's 3 1/2" gauge Maisie.
It was designed and 1st built by a
model engineer who used the pen name of LBSC. The design was serialised in the
Model Engineer magazine in the 1950's and many examples have been built over the
years.
